Exciting update for our Canadian patients! We’re delighted to share that Richmond Dental Group now welcomes the Canadian Dental Care Plan. Our goal is to enhance accessibility and affordability of dental care for our Richmond-based Canadian patients. Recognizing the significance of oral health and potential financial obstacles, we’re dedicated to enabling our Canadian patients to utilize their dental benefits with us.
What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) offers dental coverage to residents with an adjusted family net income below $90,000 and without access to dental insurance. Eligible Canadians can benefit from the CDCP by receiving coverage for a range of oral health services.
Who qualifies for CDCP?
To qualify for this plan, individuals must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Do not have dental insurance coverage
- Have a family net income below $90,000
- Be a Canadian resident for tax purposes
- Have filed your tax return in the previous year
The application process for the CDCP is phased, with seniors being the initial group eligible, starting from December 2023 for those aged 87 and above. Subsequent age groups of seniors follow in monthly intervals, while individuals holding a valid Disability Tax Credit Certificate and children under 18 become eligible in June 2024. All other eligible Canadian citizens and residents can apply starting in 2025.
How much will CDCP cover?
The CDCP reimburses a portion of expenses based on its fees and your family’s income. You may have to pay additional fees directly to the oral health provider if: your income falls between $70,000 and $89,999, the service fees exceed CDCP rates, or you choose services not covered by the CDCP. Co-payments are based on your income and cover the part of CDCP fees not covered by the program, which you pay directly to the provider. Also, you may face extra charges if service costs surpass CDCP reimbursement or if you opt for services not covered. Always inquire about uncovered expenses beforehand to understand your out-of-pocket expenses.
Net Family Income | Covered by CDCP | Covered by Patient |
---|---|---|
Below $70,000 | 100% | 0% |
$70,000 – $79,999 | 60% | 40% |
$80,000 – $89,999 | 40% | 60% |

To complete the application, you will need:

- date of birth
